Lets use this page to discuss the Book 'Red Dog'.
Can you describe the character of the dog for me. What makes him special?
“Red Dog” and “The Loaded Dog”
The last few weeks our class 5\6c were reading “Red Dog” and “The Loaded Dog”. “Red Dog” was a smart dog and also famous in Western Australia . “The Loaded Dog” was an old story and is also famous. “Red Dog” is a film and a true story whereas “The Loaded Dog” isn’t, the two stories are far apart in years.
“Red Dog” was set in Western Australia 1971 in the small town of Dampier . He had a lot of mates as we would say, there was Peeto, Jocko, Vanno, Patsy and his second family Nancy and John. “Red Dog” has many names such as “bluey” or “Red” and many more. In the middle of the novel John crashes his new motorbike, leaving “Red” in grief, so “Red Dog” starts a journey to find his mate.
“The Loaded Dog” was set in the out back Australia on the gold fields 1892.”Tommy has a handful of mates and as stupid he is he’s scared of a yellow dog. There were three men Dave, Jim and Andy. “The Loaded Dog” is about an extremely stupid dog named Tommy. During the book Tommy picks up a cartridge (bomb) in his mouth thinking it’s a game. Yellow dog gets a hold of the bomb right when it’s about to blow and gets blown up.
Lawson used more dialogue than De Bernieres but Louis De Bernieres used way more Aussie slang language than Henry Lawson.
Louis De Bernieres was most effective because he sets a picture in your head of what’s happening and made feelings get through to my heart letting me know what’s going on, more especially with the slang and humour but that’s just what I think.
